Department of Education Recognizes Orono Middle School
with a Prestigious Award
The U.S. Department of Education announced that Orono Middle School, along with 303 other schools, received the 2011 National Blue Ribbon Schools award. Our award falls in the high performing category and we believe this occurred because our students, parents, faculty, staff and the Riverside RSU 26 school community are committed to education.

District Speech Competition
Congratulations to Tatum Wilson who won the District Speech Competition and to Matthew Williamson who finished in third place. They both did a great job and represented OMS very well.
Congratulations to our Orono Middle School Math Team
The OMS Math Team participated in the Spring Math Team Meet at Eastern Maine Community College last week. Our OMS Team placed first as a team and also won many individual awards. More Information to follow. Great Job!
OMS Spelling Bee Winners
Congratulations to seventh grader, Lowell Ruck, the 2012 OMS Spelling Bee winner and to sixth grader, Joseph Astumian, for placing second. Both of these students are now eligible to compete in the Penobscot County Spelling Bee on March 17th at 1:00 in the Gracie Theatre on the Husson University campus.
Math Team News
Congratulations to our middle school math team for their outstanding performance in the Eastern Maine Math League Fall Meet. One of our sixth grade teams was tied for first place, our two seventh grade teams earned first place and third place, and one of our eighth grade teams placed second in the grade level competitions. Orono Middle School students also did very well in the individual results.
Fall Sports Highlights
Congratulations to all of our Fall Sports Teams for their successful seasons. Special recognition to the Boys' "A" Soccer Team for winning the 2011-12 Penobscot Valley Middle League Sportsmanship Award and to the Girls' "A" Soccer Team for finishing a close second in the PVML Sportsmanship rating this Fall.
